His father opened a small business and Hubert attended the University of Houston, working nights as a machinist at Hughes Tool Company. After graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hubert found that jobs in the energy industry had been hit hard by the oil bust. Undeterred, Hubert switched gears and went into the computer business. He built a successful wholesale computer business and later diversified into real estate and development. First elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2004, Hubert serves on the Criminal Jurisprudence, Public Safety, and House Administration Committees and was recently appointed to the Executive Committee on the National Conference of Insurance Legislators.
